I get many questions from my students and clients about raising their vibration and raising the vibration of the situations they are in, perhaps even raising the vibration of family members, colleagues, neighbours and so on. This is quite an interesting topic so here I am going to address the ins and outs of how to do it, when it’s appropriate, what’s possible and what is not.
Human beings occupying the physical plane mostly vibrate within the context of one major octave and go up and down the scale but confine themselves to this one octave. The lowest vibration of the octave vibrates at fear and those things that go with fear such as feeling victimized, martyred, helpless, powerless and so on. The highest vibrations available in this octave are fondness, love of family and friends, general satisfaction and happiness. In between are all the familiar states we witness in ourselves and others at various times including aggression, attacking, judging, blaming, jealousy, envy, then sorrow and grief, then play and fun, excitement, then inspiration and creativity, enthusiasm, and even moments of generosity, kindness, forgiveness, calmness, and even peaceful feelings. These are all available to human beings in the general course of living. Each of them is a field or vibration that can be discerned and experienced. Up and down the ladder we go. Some people are stuck most of the time in one or another of the lower ones and some choose to rise up and spend more of their time in the higher ones. All these vibrations provide learning of one sort or another. Yet, hardly any of these vibrations are truly expansive because they are strongly tied with expectations, thoughts, feelings, and external conditions that we react to. From these states it is very difficult to impact or influence the environment in a way that doesn’t end up in some kind of suffering because they are temporary or impermanent conditions.
Almost all of these states are heavily tied with the thinking process that tends to want to analyze, define, and label everything experienced and this leads to focusing down or shrinking awareness or dividing it up into fragments to further analyze leading to even more myopic views of reality. Ultimately this all leads to specialization so that we have specialists in every field who have mastered the operations of very small units of awareness but in so doing have lost the big picture, the intricate web of connection with everything. This, for example is the current state of medical science and this is what limits its effectiveness. Everyone knows a lot about a little bit.
From this state of affairs, it becomes very difficult to rise in vibration. Everything is just too fragmented in our perception. If we cannot raise our own vibration then it is almost impossible to raise the vibration of our environment or situation. However, it is possible to let go of our persistent myopic analysis and engage in more unified awareness such as gratitude, love, awe, forgiveness, kindness, compassion and the like. These states, rather than focusing down, are more expansive and large in context and they move upward and outward. They are part of a higher octave that is reachable if one knows how. This is a much larger topic that we will not go into here. Let us just say that every once in a while we bumble into that higher octave for brief periods of time and special things happen.
The ego or false personality does not like these higher octave perceptions because they are threatening to its agenda of keeping the personality distracted and afraid, the better to dominate it. These higher vibrational states tend to unify rather than critique, judge, separate out, define, label, and diagnose. Notice that these surrender states lead to greater relaxation or a letting go while the myopic ones require and wish for more control. You have to surrender more to forgive or be kind than you do for diagnosing or engaging in critical thinking. These thinking activities lead to a feeling of being right while forgiveness or kindness lead to a deep sense of knowing what is right. These are two very different states, one controlled by the ego and one fielded by essence. From states of love, gratitude, or awe for example there is no speculation, just knowing, very simple, very direct. Similarly, thinking leads to limited types of knowledge but kindness, for example, often comes with an “I don’t know” mind. I don’t know why, but I am motivated to be kind in this situation. This dog just tried to bite me but I am going to try to clean his wound anyway. I don’t know why but I am finding myself going out of my way to take this stranger to the airport. I am aware that it feels right and good.
Remote Healing
Each month, around the new and full moons, Jose, Lena or Anna leads a remote shamanic healing session. These approximately 30 minute sessions are designed to be experienced in a quiet, safe place free from distraction. Even if you cannot join live they can be very powerful, and always include a good clearing and beautiful icaros. Recording access is included for a short time afterwards. See the product description for dates and times.
When we come from these higher states of vibration then we can awaken the high vibrational state that is intrinsic in the environment but may not be obvious as it may be slumbering under a layer of neglect. In truth everything is high already; trees, fields, people, animals, plants and even man-made objects. The way they are perceived and treated may be hiding their high vibration making them appear dreary, dull, or lacking in light. Seeing them as full of light makes them light up from within to reveal their truth. This can be the case with people too but we can’t make them be filled with light unless they agree to it because they have free will. Sometimes people embrace darkness because they are learning a tough lesson or they embrace it because it allows them to feel sorry for themselves or gives them something to righteously complain about. We just don’t always know the reason and in many ways, it does not matter. What matters is that we respect their choice to remain in darkness awhile longer knowing they will emerge sooner or later when they choose to. So, we raise the vibration of what we can when we can but only after we have raised our own vibration to its natural state by focusing on what is inspiring, things and people we love, things we are grateful for, acts of kindness and compassion and so on. We offer the higher vibration to our brothers and sisters anyway and leave it up to them if they will accept it or not.
A powerful and impactful practice is to see random people as expressions of their multidimensional selves occupying many timeframes, locations, states of consciousness, and dimensions all at once. That homeless person you see shuffling along is at this very moment an enlightened Tibetan Buddhist Master in another lifetime and an axe murderer in another. She may be a poverty-stricken mother of ten beaten by her husband in yet another lifetime and an opera singer of great accomplishment and acclaim in another. All the while these are expressions of her eternally present multidimensional self who is already divine, holy, sacred, blessed, and completely enlightened. You can see her in her parts and judge her, throwing her under the bus, or you can see her in her wholeness and bless her and no matter what, her essence will register that and glow with light. She may be the one who saves your ass in a distant lifetime or she might be the love of your life in another one. You don’t know. We either don’t know shit or we know what we need to know. Our multidimensional selves know everything there is to know. Thus there is no problem to be thought through and figured out by the personality. There is nothing to fix, nothing to do here but just be aware.
This awareness is the only God we will ever know. It is right here, now, always has been and always will be. It is connected to all that is, the universal awareness of the multiverse and much more. For some people this comes as a horrifying shock. But what about my wonderful idea of God or the Goddess who will hold me in Her lap and love me forever? How can I ever be satisfied with just an awareness? Well I guess the best answer is, don’t knock it until you’ve gotten to know it. We get to know this awareness in only one way, by being aware of it, not by analyzing it. This requires what the Buddhists call emptiness, the essence of the container, the thing that makes the bowl have purpose. The contents come and go but the emptiness of the space is perpetual, that is, as long as the bowl lasts. That is where the metaphor breaks down. The space of ourselves is infinite and timeless and it is the space that we actually are, not the contents. The contents come and go meaning that the person who carries our name is fictional and to some degree unimportant. What is all important is the space and without it there would be no fictional us to occupy something for a little while. This may all sound crazy or very abstract to some people and that is okay but it is the key to the end of suffering and that is certainly an attractive possibility.
Empty space is, however, not the be all and end all. If that were all that there was, it would be rather dull. Empty space is actually self-luminous like the sun and that luminosity could be described as the Supreme Intelligence of the Universe. The Supreme Intelligence of the Universe streaming through empty space or what Eckart Tolle describes as Transcendent Spaciousness. That is what our awareness is. To get in touch with it all you have to do is ask yourself, “Am I alive?” “Am I Aware?” “Am I conscious?” The answer should be obvious right away. Then you sink into this awareness. Feel yourself falling backward into it. Feel how it expands in all directions wanting to be bigger and bigger and more expansive. It may go way beyond your body. You may even lose track of the momentary sensations of your body as you expand your awareness to the cosmos or just your region. Do this often. Practice being big. Its okay.
As you practice you will get better at maintaining this awareness while you are engaged otherwise, perhaps in singing, writing, reading, walking, talking to someone. It may seem difficult at first or even a little strange but it will gradually become easier with amazing and interesting results that you can only experience if you actually practice this. Your call.
